I remember when I first met Martha and mom Lora. We met for lunch at J Alexanders and we had an immediate connection. We talked about how they found me; I had done a wedding for one of Martha's college friends. And as Martha explained her vision for her wedding I knew that I wanted to be part of helping to bring Martha's vision to life! This was another very special family.
Martha and Justin are from a small town near Center Hill Lake, in beautiful Tennessee. They dreamed of getting married outside, at Justin's family home. And that is exactly what they did! 500 guest were invited; and the wedding was a beautiful affair to remember!
Thank you to Divine Images for these lovely photos.
Let the planning begin!
The week of the wedding had been filled with pouring rains and thunderstorms. On the day of the wedding, it had rained all day. It's the first time in my career that I had difficulty making the rain call. We had ordered and set a back up tent for the ceremony, but I knew that Martha's heart was set on this beautiful outdoor wedding. As the clouds rolled in and the rains came down, I was torn. At one point the rain and high winds actually blew over 10 receptions tables, soaked the linens and knocked over centerpieces. Thankfully, there was plenty of time to fix that.
Around 2:30pm we had to move forward one way or the other, and move quick or there would not be time to complete the setup. To my surprise, I found out there was a wonderful airline pilot from Colorado, who was with the extended family. I am so grateful to him. Because he was a pilot, he had the ability to read the radar more accurately . I had him on speed dial that afternoon. When it came time to make the final decision, He said to me, " You will have a break in the storms about the time the ceremony is scheduled to start. If you can start on time, you will have about 30 min. to get through the ceremony." That was it for me, I just needed that bit of hope and I knew we could make the seemingly impossible, happen! So we charged forth in the rain, and 15 minutes before 500 guest arrived the skies parted, the sun came out, and Martha and Justin were getting married!! The storms held back for about an hour and a half. And once we were all under the tent for the reception, the skies opened up and the rains poured again but this time we were all under the reception tent, Martha, Justin, and their family and friends were having a wonderful time, so LET IT RAIN!
